Frequently Asked Questions

Does a contract have to be in Spanish to be valid in Spain?

No. Contracts in English are generally valid. However, if a dispute reaches a Spanish court, an official translation into Spanish may be needed. For key contracts, a bilingual version can save time and cost later.

Which law will apply to my contract?

In many business contracts, the parties can choose the governing law. Even so, some Spanish mandatory rules still apply, for example in employment, consumer or commercial agency matters. We help you choose clauses that work in practice.

What is the difference between mediation, arbitration and litigation?

Mediation is a negotiated solution with a neutral third party. Arbitration is a private process where an arbitrator decides. Litigation is a court case. Mediation is usually faster and cheaper, while court gives a public, enforceable ruling.

Do I have to try to settle before going to court in Spain?

Since 2025, for many civil and commercial claims, parties must generally try an out-of-court solution in good faith before suing. The rules have exceptions, so we check whether they apply to your dispute.

Can you review a contract before I sign it?

Yes. We check the terms, flag risks such as unclear obligations or one-sided clauses, and explain them in plain English. We can also draft or negotiate the contract on your behalf.
